Pump station near salt mine closes

Leicester, N.Y. - A pump station near the Akzo salt mine in Livingston County has shut down
despite concerns and opposition from people living in the area around the mine.

Akzo Nobel began operating the station in the years after the collapse of its salt mine in the 90s to keep salt from seeping into a nearby aquifer.

Akzo Nobel shut down the pump because it would cost $1 million a year to run it.
