New York State reports widespread flu

Rochester, N.Y. Tis the season for the flu.

Barb Cangialosis voice is starting to sound better. She's less than a week removed from a nasty flu bug.

Very fatigued, said Cangialosi. I remember feeling very tired. Lot of body aches, head pounding, high fever.

Since October, Monroe County's Health Department says 90 labs have confirmed of influenza. They say most cases have come in the past two weeks and New York State is among 10 states with widespread flu.

We went to Urgent Care, they did a test, a nasal swab they said yeah, it was positive for influenza, said Congialosi.

The one year she didn't get her flu shot, the virus came.

It was fast and furious, said Congialosi. It hit me like a Mack truck.

Between the flu and medication she had to take, it put Christmas on hold.

It most certainly did, yes it did, but it could have been worse, said Congialosi. Were grateful we are all here and able to gather tomorrow to celebrate Christmas.

So how can you prevent getting the flu? Medical professionals urge you to wash your hands, cover coughs, and get the flu shot.
