Downtown residents excited for new grocery store

Rochester, N.Y-- A moderately priced grocery store is moving to downtown Rochester.

Harts Local Grocers, a high-end, full-service grocery store will be opening at 10 Winthrop Street, just off of lower East Avenue.

I think it will be very convenient because not everybody has the necessary transportation to get out to the other chains, Derick White said.

Hes been waiting for a grocery store to up open near his downtown home for years.

White said, Hopefully something big and cheap. With the cost of everything being so high, something that is cost effective,

This will be the first grocery store for the local owner, a new venture for the developer who purchased the 21-thousand square foot building.

President of the Rochester Downtown Development Corporation, Heidi Zimmer-Meyer said, Weve seen a lot of people moving in, a wide range of people and the need now is putting much more pressure in the market place to see some kind of grocery store you can walk to as a downtown resident.

A quick, convenient place to pick up groceries, Zimmer-Meyer said Hart's will fill a big void for the 6,000 people who live downtown. You bet a big void and one that I think has been growing weve been hearing more and more about this everywhere we go and the people we speak to.
