New sheriff in Livingston County

Avon, N.Y.- Theres a new sheriff in charge in Livingston County.

After winning a close race in November, Sheriff Tom Dougherty moved into his new office Wednesday.

He replaces Sheriff John York who led the department for 24 years.

Dougherty said he wants to improve teamwork between local and state police. He also wants to be accessible to the people he serves.

"I work directly for the people, every person in Livingston County had a vote and everyone has a voice, said Dougherty. So, if there's an issue they can reach out to me. I kept the same phone number that I campaigned with and gave to everybody because I do want to be a sheriff of the people."

Dougherty was officially sworn in weeks ago but a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony is set for Friday in Mount Morris.
