Glasser Street shooting victim recalls incident

Rochester, N.Y. -- A victim of a random crime, Jeanette Soto told 13WHAM News that she was leaving to run errands Tuesday when she got to the corner of Glasser and Masseth streets and heard three gunshots.

It came in through the right side and luckily nothing major, Soto said.

A stray bullet traveled through the passenger side of her car door, hitting her right knee.

Got scared, reverse, and as soon as I reversed, I felt the impact on my knee and I just panicked," she said. "My thing was to make it home."

Worried whoever was shooting would come back, Soto acted quickly and made it home and honked her horn, she said, for 10 minutes, waiting for help to come.

I never thought something like this would happen to me," she said. "You hear it in the news. I never thought it would happen this close to home."

It was a close call for Sotos family.

She just dropped off her fianc and children, who all could have been in the car at the time of the shooting.

I'm blessed," she said. "At least it happened in my knee and it was just me and nobody else in the car."

And she's hoping that by sharing her story, some measure of good can come from her pain.

Hopefully more people will see that gun violence is nothing to be playing around with," she said. "I understand at the heat of the moment people are mad, but you have innocent people that are getting hurt."

Soto has to go back in about a week for X-rays to make sure there isn't more damage to her knee.

Police are still investigating and looking for suspects.
