Grocery store coming to downtown Rochester

Rochester, N.Y. - A new sizeable grocery store is being planned for downtown Rochester.

It will be a locally-owned grocery store just off the lower end of East Avenue.

With those couple of clues, people have been trying to guess what store that could be but 13WHAM is told that its not one of the big players, Wegmans or Tops.

The developers have been tight lipped, but while we are still waiting on a lot of details, people in the area are already getting excited.

Over the last few years, thousands who live in this area said, in a survey, that their biggest need was a downtown grocery store.

The only concern is parking. At Winthrop Street, the grocery store will open up right in between the Little Theatre and the 2 Vine restaurant.

In terms of the times that those have peek usage, where parking is going to be an issue, is probably off peak to when a grocery store operates, says Heidi Zimmer-Meye, the President of Rochester Downtown Development Corporation. you'll also have a lot of walkers so I think the parking will ironically work out pretty well, they have a parking lot and then there is on street parking.

An official announcement from the developer, to announce what grocery story will be opening, could come as soon as Friday.
