$500,000 bail set for Lewek

Rochester, N.Y. A judge has granted half a million dollar bail for the doctor who owns the home where the body of Matthew Straton was found Thursday.

13WHAM News was inside the courtroom for the arraignment of Doctor William Lewek Friday morning.  Lewek faces charges of drug possession and tampering with evidence.

Thursday morning, Rochester Police recovered Stratons body in Leweks backyard on Rowley St. in Rochester. Straton was reported missing in late October.

"At this point we felt that there was enough evidence to charge him with tampering for concealing Matt's body in the back yard of his house and what that prevented was obviously the police from investigating Matthew's death and obviously prevented the Medical Examiner from investigating his death and left us in the situation where we are today," Monroe County Assistant District Attorney Kelly Wolford said.

Lewek was also charged with possession of crack cocaine, specifically regarding 17 zip-lock baggies of the substance that police say they located in his home during the ongoing search.

"It has been an absolutely unbelievably thorough investigation. They have taken their time and methodically gone through the evidence. The house is very large and there's a lot of things to go through," Wolford said.

The suspect is expected back in court on Tuesday. Lewek did not have a lawyer with him at Fridays hearing, but he is required to hire a lawyer before then.

Matthew Stratton's family attended Friday's court hearing, and talked to 13WHAM reporters outside the courthouse. VIEW THE INTERVIEW HERE
