Webster woman charged with vehicular manslaughter after pedestrian hit

Webster, N.Y. - Police say Cheryl Tobin, 65, was driving north on Holt Road Thursday when she veered off the road, hitting 77-year-old Martin Abkowitz, who was walking along the shoulder.

Abkowitz, pictured below, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said after hitting Abkowitz, Tobins vehicle continued on--hitting a mailbox and trees--before coming to a stop.

Tobin was charged with felonious vehicular manslaughter, DWI, and driving while impaired by drugs.

She was arraigned in Webster Court, and sent to Monroe Co. Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.

Her next appearance in Webster Court is set for February 4.
