Sheriff details exchange between deputy, suspect

Rochester, N.Y. - Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn released new information on the deputy-involved shooting near Pittsford Plaza.

At a news conference Thursday, O'Flynn said the deputy who shot Vincenzo Zagari is Bridget Davis.

O'Flynn said Zagari attempted to strike Davis with a hammer. After Davis swatted it away, he then pointed a gun at Davis, which prompted Davis to draw her own gun. She fired, hitting Zagari in the hand and chest.

O'Flynn revealed that the gun Zagari drew was a pellet gun, one of two found on him later in the investigation.

Deputy Davis is doing well and has taken a few days off. Zagari remains in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
