N.Y. auditors: State OT needs to be reined in

Albany, N.Y. (AP) - New York auditors said overtime spending at state agencies needs to be reined in.

State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said in a report Tuesday that the overtime bill for 2013 was $611 million. That's up nearly 16 percent from the previous year.

The audit shows that 14.8 million overtime hours were filed for in 2013, and DiNapoli said overtime was up 27.3 percent during a seven-year period ending in 2013.

According to DiNapoli's report, overtime represented nearly 4 percent of the total state payroll last year.
