NY casino siting board still not appointed

Albany, N.Y. (AP) -- Chances are receding that a casino siting board will be appointed by the end of January as called for by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Cuomo set a schedule for creating the board in January during his State of the State address earlier this month. But as of Wednesday, the New York State Gaming Commission hadn't scheduled a meeting before the end of the month Friday. The commission will appoint members to the board.

Commission spokesman Lee Park said it's evaluating candidates and members will be selected very soon. He said it expects to meet the governor's March deadline for requesting casino applications.

New York voters in November passed a state constitutional amendment to allow Las Vegas-style casinos. State officials can now award up to four casino licenses upstate.
