Sabres celebrate New Year's babies

Buffalo, N.Y. (AP) -- The Buffalo Sabres are making plans to draft a new group of fans, beginning with the first babies born in the new year. Sabres President Ted Black will be at Women & Children's Hospital of Buffalo Wednesday to continue the NHL team's "Buffalo Baby" initiative developed last year. Throughout 2014, all newborns at two hospitals will receive a Buffalo Sabres baby blanket and a "future first-round pick" certificate from Sabres Owner Terry Pegula. Black said the program with Kaleida Health is a way to welcome the newest members of the community and start them on the road to becoming lifelong fans. Last year, the team gave out 7,000 blankets.
