Family remembers victim of snowboarding accident

Wayland, N.Y. A family from Wayland is remembering their son and brother Skylar Ormond, 22, after he was killed at a Vermont ski resort Friday.

He told me he was going to Vermont to go skiing, said Keith Ormond, Skylars father. I told him to be careful, I cant lose another one.

Those were Keiths final words to his son Skylar. Skylar was killed on the slopes after veering off into a tree.

Vermont State Police say he was trying to avoid another snowboarder at Killington Ski Resort. He died several hours later at the hospital.

The Ormond family said Skylar was a loving person and hard worker with two other jobs. They say he always knew how to make others around him laugh.

His father Keith said, If you were around him for five minutes, you wouldnt want to be ever without him.

The family told 13WHAM, Skylar picked up snowboarding a few years ago when he started working at Bristol Mountain.

We reached out to Bristol Mountain who gave us this statement:

"He was a second-year staff member in rental facility at Bristol. All of our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones and family."

This loss is especially hard for the Ormond family. They lost their oldest child in 2006 from a seizure.

Its not easy, said Keith. I dont care if youve done it ten times, and if you have done it ten times, the last time is as hard as the first time.

Keith says it's the conversations between a father and son he'll miss the most.
