District: Doohan always wore a smile

East Rochester, N.Y. - He always had a smile on his face and was eager to help others, that is how staff members with the East Rochester Union Free School District remember Tyler Doohan, said Richard Stutzman, interim-superintendent.

Doohan was killed during an early morning fire on Fondiller Avenue in Penfield. He tried to save his grandfather from the burning mobile home, but died in the process, said investigators.

I dont think theres words that can express exactly how we are feeling, said Stutzman. Its really sad and my heart breaks.

Doohan was relatively new to the East Rochester district, having enrolled late last year, said Stutzman. He was well liked, according to district leaders.

I got an email from one of our staff members that was telling me they werent surprised that Tyler went to help his grandfather because thats the type of young man that he was.

Despite the grief, administrators have been placing calls to counselors and a psychologist in order to have a team ready to help all members of the school community when school resumes on Tuesday, said Stutzman.
