Christie to address NJ amid controversy

Trenton, N.J. (AP) -- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will propose extending the public school year and lengthening the school day when he delivers his State of the State address Tuesday.

The speech comes as an apparent political payback scheme threatens to damage his second term and could cut short any ambitions to run for president.

At the same time, would-be allies from states including Iowa and New Hampshire have been slow to rally behind the Republican governor, whose administration appears to have created a massive traffic jam in Fort Lee to punish a mayor who refused to endorse Christie's re-election. Two state legislative panels continue to investigate those allegations.
