Bicyclist hit, killed by RTS bus

Rochester, N.Y. -- Rochester police are investigating a deadly crash involving a pedestrian and an RTS bus.

Police said a woman on a bicycle rode onto North Clinton Avenue around 1 a.m. and was hit.

Both the bike and bus were in the northbound lane. Police said the bus swerved into the southbound lane to avoid hitting the bicyclist.

No one on the bus was injured.

Several roads in the area, including North Clinton Avenue, Evergreen Street and Sullivan Street, are blocked off to traffic while police investigate.

The victim's name and age have not been released yet.

UPDATE: RTS released a statement Thursday morning.

"Were deeply saddened by the tragic accident that occurred this morning on Clinton Avenue.

The Rochester Police Department is in charge of the investigation and we are cooperating with them completely.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victim and our Bus Operator at this very difficult time."
