Funds being raised for Penfield boy hero's funeral

Penfield, N.Y. - An online fundraising campaign is hoping to raise $5,000 to pay for the funeral of an 8-year-old boy who died while trying to rescue his disabled uncle from the burning mobile home where they were staying.

The page set up on for Tyler Doohan says more than $4,770 has been raised as of Wednesday morning.

UPDATE: 6:15 p.m. Wednesday- $31,620 was raised

Authorities in Penfield say the boy died early Monday morning after he ran inside his grandfather's burning trailer home to rescue Tyler's uncle, who used a wheelchair and crutches after losing a leg.

Fire officials say Tyler's body was found just a few feet from his 54-year-old uncle's. The 57-year-old grandfather also died in the blaze. Six other relatives escaped.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.

Information on Tyler's funeral services isn't available.
