Irondequoit sets deadline for Medley Centre payment

Irondequoit, N.Y. - After missing the latest of several deadlines to make payments on the Medley Centre property, an ultimatum was issued Tuesday to Scott Congel, the developer who purchased the property.

In a statement given Tuesday, Irondequoit Supervisor Adam Bello announced Bersin Properties, LLC, will have until May 1, 2014 to pay $3.87 million as conditioned by the 2009 Payment-in-lieu-of-taxes (PILOT) agreement.

The payments are owed to the Town of Irondequoit, the East Irondequoit School District and Monroe County.

If Congel fails to make said payments, those taxing jurisdictions will terminate the PILOT.

"The continued neglect and deterioration of Medley Centre cannot continue to damage the image of the Town of Irondequoit," said Supervisor Bello. Mr. Congel must understand that the people of Irondequoit and Monroe County have invested much on this project - the time has come for Mr. Congel to do the same."

The original 2009 agreement stipulated Bersin Properties was to have invested $165 million in the project to date.

The Town of Irondequoit claims, as of 2012, Congel has received more than $3.8 million from the State of New York as a reimbursement of any PILOT payments made.
