New petition attacks prison funding plan

Buffalo, N.Y. - New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced a proposal to publicly fund college for prison inmates, and since then has received backlash from New York lawmakers.

Buffalo State Senator Mark Grisanti launched an online petition Monday, which opposed the Governors proposal.

Grisanti is one of several lawmakers attacking the plan because of the cost: $5,000 per inmate.

Governor Cuomo said it would cut down on recidivism and lower the roughly $60,000 a year it costs to house a prisoner.
