City waiving cat adoption fee

Rochester, N.Y. -- Are you looking for another addition to your family? On Saturday, The City of Rochester will waive adoption fees for select cats.

Saturday at the Animal Services Center at 184 Verona St., all cats currently in foster care will be available for visitation and adoption at no charge.

Sending an animal into foster care extends the walls of the shelter and gives those animals more time for us to find them new homes, said Chris Fitzgerald, director of animal services.

Fitzgerald said while foster homes represent a healthier and less stressful environment for animals, they also pose some challenges for shelters.  Foster animals are posted on the Rochester Animal Services website but they are not as accessible for viewing and visitation as other adoptable animals remaining at the shelter.

The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
