Stink Bugs are moving in

Avon, N.Y. In the last several weeks the number of stink bug showing up in homes across Western New York has been increasing.

The warmer weather is inviting for them.

They keep on appearing out of nowhere, said Kathryn Costello, of Avon who has been mainly finding stink bugs in the upstairs of her home around the windows. They're just kind of annoying. If you're in the shower and they'll just kind of crawl in there, I guess it's more of a pain in the butt to like have to keep throwing them out.

Flushing a stink bug down the toilet, not crushing them, is the best way for a homeowner to get rid of the bugs after theyve made their way inside.

The way to prevent that in your house is to have it sprayed in September or October that's when they're going to start to hibernate and live under your siding so we would treat all the siding around the windows, any place that they could potentially get in, said Caleb Fabry Operations Manager of Town and Country Pest Solutions, calls about stink bugs in homes have been on the rise in the last few weeks. Probably right now three a day, before last year we might have gotten 3 or 4 a month and it is getting, it's picking up a lot.

While the bugs arent harmful to homes or people they are a nuisance and reproduce often, making getting rid of them difficult.

And not being able to get rid of these bugs is tough on farmers.

It started in 1998 in September its the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug and it came over from the Asian countries, said Fabry. Theyre destroying farms fruit fields and apple fields, and vegetable fields so thats what they feed on. Its not really a good thing to have over all for your area.
