Religious freedom bill passes in AZ

Phoenix, A.Z. A controversial law, that allows business owners to deny service to gay people based on religious belief has passed in Arizona Friday, and is now making its way to Governor Jan Brewers desk for a signature.

The 22-27 in Arizonas House makes it the only law of its kind to pass, but other states have introduced similar plans.

Supporters say that the law protects business owners and the law is about religious freedom, not discrimination.

According to the Associated Press, the bill allows any business, church, or person to use the law as a defense against being accused of discrimination.

Arizonas Senate passed the bill on Thursday with a 17-13 vote.
