Rochester reacts: No. 5 on 'Snowiest City' list

Rochester, N.Y. -- Syracuse is in danger of losing its title as the snowiest big city in America.

It had 81 inches of snow as of Monday to rank fourth in the race to win the Golden Snow Globe competition. Erie, Pa. is the runaway leader with 107.5 inches.

Syracuse trailed Buffalo by 13.4 inches in the Golden Snowball contest for supremacy among New York's largest cities. Last year, Syracuse won both contests.

Nationally, Grand Rapids, Mich. ranks third with 92.2 inches, while Rochester, at 71. 8 inches, rounds out the top five nationally.

13WHAM News spoke with people throughout Rochester and got their take on living in the No. 5 snowiest city.

"I hate it," said Charlotte resident Melissa Buchholz. "I was born in the wrong place."

Tim McGrath, also a Charlotte resident, has experienced 30 winters in his lake-front cottage and said the view is well worth it.

In the winter the lake is, like I say, spectacular, but you got to pay for it, said McGrath.

But neither Buchholz nor McGrath would feel bad if Rochester was lower on the list.

Top five sunniest would be nice, said Buchholz.
