City worker arrested for cocaine

Rochester, N.Y. Were learning more about the man police arrested for possessing 24 kilograms of suspected cocaine. That's worth more than $1 million.

Police say they found the cocaine hidden in Christopher Kendricks car on February 4 on 490 near Chili.

Kendrick, 37, also worked for the City of Rochester for many years cleaning the city. City officials told 13WHAM he was hired as a seasonal employee in 1996, and then hired full-time in 2006.

He was a great employee, said Mayor Lovely Warren. We didnt have any issues with him, but of course we are going back to look at the record.

The mayor said Kendricks responsibilities included cutting grass, picking up the trash and other jobs that keep the city clean.

The city is currently working with federal investigators regarding this incident.

"We'll wait to get information from them before making any decision or speculating on what might have happened on his work time, said Mayor Warren.

Kendrick was charged with possession with intent to distribute 10 kilograms or more of cocaine. The charge carries a mandatory minimum of 10 years in prison, a maximum of life and a $10,000,000 fine.

U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul said this arrest was part of one of the largest cocaine seizures in Rochester history.
