Shooting victim laid to rest

Rochester, N.Y. The man who was shot to death at the S & S Mini Mart on Lyell Avenue was laid to rest Saturday.

Family members said theyll remember Samuel Gibson, 21, as a loving person, gentle and outgoing and someone who kept you laughing all the time.

Saying goodbye was especially hard for Gibsons identical twin brother Joshua Gibson.

He witnessed his brother get shot inside the store. Joshua told 13WHAM the two were there to stop a fight that night. He never thought that would turn into a deadly shooting.

I just tried to help my brother up. He wouldnt respond to me, said Joshua.

According to a recent crime report from Rochester Police, the number of homicides went up by nearly 17 percent from 2012 to 2013.

Gibson's family said crime has always been a problem where Gibson was shot.

Crime in the Saratoga area has always been a big problem, said Orla Lewis-Gibson. I feel that it could be more controlled if they would put the right people there to control that crime there.

While the family hopes law enforcement will reevaluate safety measures, Joshua said he just wants justice for his brother. He said hell leave that in Gods hands.

Thats all I had, said Joshua. They took everything that I had. That wasnt only my brother, my love. That was my twin brother.
