Mayor Warren reacts to Hill application story

Rochester, N.Y. Mayor Lovely Warrens administration is responding to a recent report featured in the Democrat and Chronicle which indicated Reggie Hill, Warrens uncle, is among the candidates for leading her personal security detail.

Hill resigned the lead security detail position last month.

The statement from Warrens spokesperson reads as follows:

The Democrat and Chronicle's rush to report on Reggie Hill's application for the position of Director of Executive Services lacks key critical information. Mr. Hill made the decision a while ago that he would not complete the interview process for the same reasons cited when he resigned the post.  At the time of his resignation, Mr. Hill felt that his continuing service to the City was becoming a distraction from the good and important work that the Mayor is doing, and overshadowing the progress that is being made. Since the time of his resignation, his unique qualifications presented him with several lucrative opportunities which he is exploring.  This information was not known to the Director of the Department of Human Resource Management, nor should it have been, since the application deadline was February 3 and none of the interview appointments have been scheduled. I stress that had the Democrat and Chronicle waited for the process to take its course according to established procedures then this never would have been a story at all.  From this point forward, Mr. Hill's career is his private business which does not intersect with the City of Rochester.  Therefore, this is our final statement regarding the matter.
