NY college brings 'Twilight Zone' to stage

Binghamton, N.Y. (AP) - Two of Rod Serling's classic "Twilight Zone" episodes are being brought to the stage by the state college in his upstate New York hometown.

Binghamton University's theater department is staging the episodes titled "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street" and "Dust" this weekend and next weekend.

The idea for staging Serling's television scripts came from Elizabeth Mozer, a member of the university's faculty who's directing the plays. She tells the Press & Sun-Bulletin of Binghamton that she loves Serling's work for his writing style and his take on society.

Serling was born in Syracuse in 1924 and grew up in Binghamton, where he graduated from high school before enlisting in the Army in World War II.

Serling was teaching at Ithaca College in 1975 when he died after undergoing heart surgery.
