Astorino to announce decision Wed.

White Plains, N.Y. (AP) - Republican Rob Astorino says he'll announce Wednesday whether he's challenging Andrew Cuomo for governor of New York.

In a Twitter message, the Westchester County executive says he'll reveal his decision in a "video news release."

If he's running, Astorino faces challenges in name recognition and fundraising. He's trailing badly in polls.

But he has predicted he can win enough voters upstate and in the suburbs to overcome the heavy Democratic vote in New York City.

Astorino has been easily elected county executive twice in Westchester, where Democrats heavily outnumber Republicans.

Cuomo, who lives in Westchester, has not publicly addressed an Astorino candidacy. But he has mentioned Westchester's heavy taxes. Astorino has kept county property taxes flat throughout his time in office.

Astorino is 46 and lives in Mount Pleasant
