Driver charged with vehicular manslaughter pleads not guilty

Rochester, N.Y. -- A driver charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of drugs in a crash that killed a Webster man pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday.

Investigators said Cheryl Tobin lost control of her vehicle on Holt Road and struck Martin Abkowitz, 77, who was out for a walk Jan. 30.

Tobin was arraigned on numerous counts of manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, driving while ability impaired by drugs, and reckless driving.

She pleaded not guilty and the case was adjourned for motions to May 8.

Her bail remains set at $50,000 cash, $10,000 bond.
