Local standoff suspect pleads guilty

Canandaigua, N.Y. -- Just days into his trial, a Victor man involved in a standoff and hostage situation last year pled guilty to a weapons charge.

Ryan Whidden accepted a deal Wednesday that would send him to prison for 10 years. A kidnapping charge against him was dropped as part of the deal.

Whidden held police and authorities at bay for 12 hours on March 11, 2013.

He held his wife at gunpoint inside their home on Ketchum Street and fired shots at two vehicles outside.

Whidden's wife, Nina, testified against her husband Tuesday in what was an emotional day in court.

The prosecutor told 13WHAM News the victim's physical and emotional health was considered when accepting this plea.
