Crimea signs treaty to join Russia

Moscow, Russia - Russian and Crimean leaders have signed a treaty to make the territory part of Russia.

In a televised address to the nation Tuesday, Russian president Vladimir Putin said he doesn't want to move into other regions of Ukraine, saying that "we don't want division of Ukraine."

Putin said that Russia had to respond to what he described as a Western plot to take Ukraine into its sphere of influence. He said that protests that drove out Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych were encouraged by the West.
