Top consumer complaints in New York

New York - This week is National Consumer Protection Week, and the New York Attorney General's office is encouraging New Yorkers to let them know when they feel victimized.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said most of the complaints from the Rochester area are car-related.

"One woman was tricked into buying a car she couldn't afford when she thought she was authorizing a credit check," said Schneiderman. "Frauds like this take advantage of unsuspecting customers and my office will pursue justice in these cases."

That woman was eventually able to get the dealership to take the car back.

125 complaints were filed just last year related to automobiles. 107 were related to home repair and contractors.

There were also 63 general service-related complaints.
