Compassion aide spares man from homelessness

Greece, N.Y.They knew it would close, but not when it would close.

We had been told for the last year, the place was going to close next week, its going to close next week, scoffed Paul Clowminzer, a former Blossom South patient.

A week ago, that talk became action and residents were moved out over the weekend.

I was right on the verge of going into a homeless shelter, Clowminzer added.

Instead of a shelter, an aide from Blossom South asked a nursing home executive how to go about taking home of the patients.

You have to have compassion to deal with the people if you dont have that than you dont need to be in this field, exclaimed Lisa Moton

Clowinzer was elated to learn that one of his favorites from the nursing home would take him in.

It makes me teary eyed, Clowminzer said.

The State Department of Health ordered that patients be transferred from Blossom South to other facilities statewide, few are as independent as Clowminzer, he said.
The order came after the federal government cut Medicare and Medicaid funding due to numerous health and safety violations cited at Blossom South.

As of Friday afternoon, all but a dozen residents had been relocated, according to Lifespan, an organization working with Blossom leadership to complete its business.
