SUNY Brockport student killed in snowboarding accident

Lake Placid, N.Y. - Austin White, 22, of Hemlock, died after an accident at Whiteface Mountain, a ski resort near Lake Placid, according to New York State Police.

White was injured while snowboarding when he ran off Excelsior Trail, where it crosses Lower Northway into a wooded area, and hit a tree.

Police got the call at 12:26 p.m.

White was taken by ambulance to Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, where he was pronounced dead at 1:12 p.m.

White was a senior studying exercise science at the College at Brockport.

An autopsy wass scheduled for Monday. 


The College of Brockport Released this Statement:

It is with great sadness that we report to you the tragic snowboarding death of Brockport student Austin White, 22, of Hemlock, N.Y. White was a senior majoring in exercise science.

College at Brockport President John R. Halstead released the following statement:

On behalf of the entire College at Brockport community, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Austin White. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this difficult time.
