No charges filed in Churchville-Chili fight

Churchville, N.Y. -- No charges will be filed by the Monroe County Sheriffs Office after footage of a fight inside Churchville-Chili High School was released online last week.

A spokesman for the sheriffs officesaid the victims chose not to press charges, and any punishment will come from the school.

The district said the fight happened late in the school day March 25 between seven female students. Video was posted on social media later in the evening.

A statement on the district's website read in part, "The district takes this behavior very seriously and is conducting a complete investigation. Due to the number of students involved the investigation will take time."

The district said it will determine disciplinary action once an investigation is complete, and all of the students involved in the incident are identified. An email the district sent to media outlets read:

"We want to assure our students, parents and community that student safety is a top priority and we are committed to providing a safe learning environment for all of our students. The district is saddened that this incident occurred and wants to reassure our families and community that this not representative of our schools and the wonderful educational opportunities we offer."
