Sea of green at annual city parade

Rochester, N.Y. - Nothing says the nearing of spring like a special road race and parade to follow - all geared to St. Patrick's Day!

The spirit of the Irish was alive and well in Rochester, even for those not of Irish descent.

After the Johnny's Running of the Green, the city's annual parade provided a thrill for kids and adults alike, who spotted leprechauns, bagpipers, as well as all those hard-to-miss unique outfits.

"We just wanted something special but not over the top," said Heather Johnson of Victor, wearing green headgear and other clothing. "Keeps the hair out of our face."

"It's a pretty large jacket so I have a lot of room to be loose here," said parade-goer Marty Cox. "Need to get into the St. Patrick Day spirit. See a lot of people wearing green so why not go all the way out, right?"

Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren and County Executive Maggie Brooks sported their St. Paddy's Day best Saturday.

They also helped raise the Irish flags at City Hall, as part of the city's annual festivities.
