East Rochester class trip cancelled

East Rochester, N.Y. -- East Rochester Union Free School District Superintendent Dick Stutzman announced Monday that he cancelled the district's eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C. after multiple incidents of misbehavior by students.

According to Stutzman, the majority of students in the 80-member class were rude and disrespectful during a class trip to Nazareth College to see the play "Diary of Anne Frank."

Stutzman wrote a letter on the district's website telling the community trip was off and said the class had misbehaved on three separate occasions, proving, in his words, "they cannot be trusted."

Parents like Britanny Cavatassi were angry and upset. Cavatassi said her son Zack is one of the students who didn't act up and was thanked for his good behavior that day. She doesn't think it's fair that the whole class is punished.

The superintendent said he'll meet with eighth-graders Tuesday to talk about expectations. He said any money raised will stay with this class. He also said if students behave for the rest of the year and sign contracts, they may be allowed to take a one-day field trip at the end of the year.
