Wegmans leads in supermarket rankings
Yonkers, N.Y. -- Wegmans topped Consumer Reports new list of the top supermarkets in the country.
Readers looked at 55 of the nations major supermarkets and gave the Rochester-based chain a grade of 88 out of 100.
Western New York-based Tops Markets scored a 72, finishing 50th out of 55.
Trader Joes, which has a store in Pittsford, was second with 87.
Costco, scheduled to open in Rochester this fall, finished fourth (84). Florida-based Publix was third (85).
Walmart, the nations largest grocer, finished last with 67.
Rankings were based on service, perishables, prices and cleanliness.
