Greece teacher resigns during district investigation
Greece, N.Y. - The Greece School District says the teacher under investigation for the alleged use of offensive and inappropriate language in class has resigned.
A statement from the school Tuesday evening said:
On February 27th, Greece Central School District officials became aware of a social media post that included an image of a Greece teacher allegedly using inappropriate and offensive language during instructional time. Immediate action was taken to address the situation. Late today, the teacher submitted her resignation.
A parent of a student in the class said that her daughter took a picture of one of the words that the teacher allegedly wrote on a white board, and posted it on Facebook. The 17-year-old student said the teacher played dirty word games to bond with students.
The mother sent the picture to 13WHAMs media partner, 98.9 The Buzz Radio, and they shared it with us.
The mother complained to the district and will meet with the superintendent on Wednesday. She said she wants an explanation about why this happened.
Other parents called into the radio program Kimberly and Beck on Tuesday defending the teacher, and claiming students encouraged her to write vulgar words on the board, and then they would act them out for the class.
The Greece School District tells 13WHAM that they take allegations like this very seriously.
