Greece to announce new police chief

Greece, N.Y. -- The Greece Police Department will announce its next chief Monday morning.

Sources said Greece Police captains Pat Phelan and Brian Uhrmacher scored highest on the most recent test to assess candidates for chief. An announcement was scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday at the Greece Town Hall.

Outgoing Chief Todd Baxter announced earlier this month hes leaving the department after holding the departments top spot for four years.

Greece police dealt with several major scandals shortly before Baxter took over in 2010. Baxter said hes leaving the department in good hands, with a full staff of 100 officers and new protocols in place for internal affairs and other departments to prevent corruption and controversy.

Baxter is leaving to take a job as executive director of the Veterans Outreach Center. His duties begin April 2.

It's a bit nerve-racking from the standpoint that I love being a cop, he said. I love law enforcement. I love chasing the bad guys. I don't know what I'm going to do to fulfill that.
