RIT recognized for being green

Henrietta, N.Y. -- Rochester Institute of Technology's Golisano Institute for Sustainability is being recognized for its green features.

Those features include a fuel cell, wind turbines and solar panels. The building has only consumed about one-third of the electricity it has generated during the last year.

"It is truly a living laboratory and an amazing facility," said Tracie Hall, the executive director for the Upstate New York chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council. "The performance of work in this facility will become trendsetting and RIT is at the heart of this research and of this sustainability movement."

The Golisano Institute of Sustainability has been rated among the top 1 percent of all green buildings in the United States.
