UPDATED: Bills coach Marrone has cancerous mole
Buffalo, N.Y. -- Bills coach Doug Marrone confirmed Tuesday evening that he had a cancerous mole removed from his skin recently.
In a statement Tuesday, Marrone said, "The recent extraction procedure will have no effect on my ability to coach the team moving forward."
Earlier Tuesday evening, a story on BuffaloBills.com said Marrone was battling cancer. The post, an incomplete story, was taken down.
The post was titled "Coach Marrone announces he has cancer."
The body of the post said, "Head Coach Doug Marrone announced today that he was diagnosed with BLANK TYPE OF CANCER, and that it is highly treatable."
Doug Marrone's full statement:
"During a recent doctor's visit, it was discovered that I had a cancerous mole on my skin, which has since been removed. The only follow up required is to have my moles checked every three months and that basically is the end of the story. The recent extraction procedure will have no effect on my ability to coach the team moving forward."
