99-year-old gets Hilton High diploma

Hilton, N.Y. -- Ray Hendershot got a surprise Tuesday: his high school diploma.

The 99-year-old would have graduated from Hilton High School in 1931, but he had to drop out during the Great Depression when his family asked him to leave to school to work on the family's farm.

"I always felt shortchanged, but nobody was to blame," Hendershot said. "It was the way it had to be. I was the oldest one in the family. The oldest boy. When my dad had the stroke, it was up to me to take over, which I did."

Hilton's mayor also presented Hendershot with a key to the village.
