NYS approves theater tax breaks

Albany, N.Y. -- State lawmakers have approved a measure that could bring more theater productions to Upstate New York.

The plan, part of the $140 billion budget deal approved Monday, offers a 25 percent tax credit for show producers who bring their shows to theaters across the state.

The credit is applicable to theaters anywhere in the state other than New York City. Supporters said it will help boost tourism. New York is the fourth state to give tax breaks to theater productions.
