Airsoft gun center opens in Rochester

Rochester, N.Y. - Toy guns could one day help local police train.

A new indoor airsoft field has opened in rochester.

The owner is hoping police are civilians come in and give it a try.

On Tuesday night, Airsoft Tactical on Lincoln Avenue opened its doors to police to invite them to train within the game to help improve police safety.

Airsoft guns shoot plastic bb's.

Over 20,000 square feet, the game area is set up to look like a city, with cars parked in front and bars on the main street and a house in the back, with targets strategically placed inside.

Sheriff deputies at the session said this would be a good place for law enforcement to train, offering them a more realistic place to practice with person-on-person contact with places to hide and structures for police to clear.

Police said it's definitely more life-like than firing in a booth at a gun range.

This is something officers say they hope their departments consider as a possible training site.

Airsoft Tactical will open for game play to the public next week but is in the process of trying to arrange regular training sessions with law enforcement.
