Orleans man had history of animal abuse

Victor, N.Y. -- An Orleans County man faces animal cruelty charges for an incident at Eastview Mall, a similar charge to one he faced before in Orleans County.

Sheriff's deputies said Nathan Stephens, 47, of Holley, was arrested Monday night after several shoppers called 911 to report dogs in distress.

Deputies said Stephens left three puppies inside a hot car. They were turned over to the Humane Society.

Stephens was charged with three counts of animal cruelty, three counts of confinement of a companion animal in a vehicle, and aggravated unlicensed operation. He was being held on bail.

Back in June of 2013, Stephens was charged with animal abuse when he was arrested for having improper shelter.

If you purchased a puppy from Stephens in the past, you're asked to contact the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.

Wednesday, the Ontario County Humane Society said the puppies were surrendered to officials there. The puppies will be available to people who want to adopt them. Click here to get on the list.
