Bee population hit hard by winter

Williamson, N.Y. -- Bees are dying off in larger numbers every year.

13WHAM News spoke with Pat Bono, a beekeeper at Seaway Trail Honey in Pultneyville, who said the harsh winter may make matters worse.

According to Bono, a survey of New York state beekeepers showed 48 percent of beehives died this winter, mainly due to starvation and cold.

It's possible that a lower bee population may mean higher honey prices.
