Brooks gives Medley developers an ultimatum

Rochester, N.Y. -- Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks, gave her State of the County address Wednesday at the Strong National Museum of Play, giving an ultimatum to the developers of the Medley Centre in Irondequoit.

"To say it's been a frustrating six years is an understatement, and now the developer faces a final deadline to make all payments due, which is May 1st," said Brooks.

Developer Bersin Properties, LLC owes more than $3.8 million dollars for not meeting the second milestone for the Medley Centre and the annual fee for the PILOT program.

Brooks said if that deadline is not met, the county will "rescind the PILOT program" for the Medley Centre and also "prepare legal action to hold the developer accountable for all money that is owed, including PILOT and milestone payments."

"You and I don't have the luxury of missing our tax payments," Brooks said. "We don't get a pass when we don't pay our bills. We cannot hold developers or companies to a different standard."

Irondequoit Town Supervisor Adam Bello said he's delighted by the county's response.

"This has been a frustrating experience for years in Irondequoit," he said. "Taxpayers have been frustrated for years because this is a project where we've invested millions of dollars and seen no progress over the years."

Bello also said he hasn't been in contact with Scott Congel, owner of Bersin Properties.

13WHAM also reached out to Congel's partner, but has not yet received a response.
