Friends remember fire victim

Rochester, N.Y. -- Police are investigating a fire considered suspicious that killed a Rochester man and left a woman seriously injured Wednesday morning.

Friends said a man they knew as Reggie may have been asleep when flames engulfed the house on Hudson Avenue. He had been placed in the home recently by the House of Mercy.

"I actually saw his yesterday morning," said Ashley Covington with the House of Mercy. "It's sad that it happened to him. He was a really sweet person when you got to know him."

Some of the residents said they were placed there by the House of Mercy and it was better than living on the street but the conditions were not always good. They said there were problems in the last week when someone threw a rock through the window of the home.

Friends said Reggie had just moved into the house a few weeks ago.

Frederick Young lived on the first floor of the house near Reggie but wasn't home when the fire started. Young said Reggie was an amputee but could get around even though he didn't have feet.
