State holds distracted driving conference

Albany, N.Y. -- Police and leaders from across the state are scheduled to gather for a conference to discuss strategies to prevent distracted driving Wednesday.

The two-day conference is in conjunction with Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Studies show drivers who use their cell phones behind the wheel are four times likelier to get into an accident.

New York state drivers face fines of $50-100 and up to five points off their licenses if caught texting while driving.
